Field-mount temperature transmitters are designed to operate in the harshest environments. Field-mount temperature transmitters are designed with a dual compartment housing that keeps moisture, humidity, or other contaminants from getting into the transmitter's electronics.

Panel mount temperature transmitters are designed to be mounted on DIN-rails located in non-harsh environments usually in or near control rooms. The advantage of this type of mounting is that they can be grouped together for easy access. The disadvantage is the length of wiring from the sensor to the transmitter.
